  1. The 2nd Edu-GLIA Complementary Training Course will be held in Tuebingen, Germany from March 05 - 07, 2012. It will be a joint training course for the ESRs and ERs of the ITNs Edu-GLIA and OpAL (www.itn-opal.eu) and will include the following courses: Ethical aspects of medicine and medical research and project management.
    A training course on transgenic mouse models in neuroscience and in vivo imaging approaches will be held in Homburg, Germany from February 27, 2012 until March 04, 2012.

  2. A symposium on "Transmitters and Receptors in Astrocytes" was held at the Universidad Central del Caribe in San Juan/Bayamón, Puerto Rico on January 17 + 18, 2012.

  3. The Edu-GLIA Mid-Term Review Meeting was successfully held in Bled, Slovenia from August 22-23, 2011, followed by the ISN Satellite meeting on "Glial cells in (patho)physiology" held in Ljubljana, Slovenia from August 24 - 27, 2011 (http://lnmcp.mf.uni-lj.si/index.html; speakers: F.   4. An Edu-GLIA booklet focusing on our young researchers and a poster entitled "Structured European Education in Glia-Neuron Interactions for Ambitious Young Researchers" are now available for download on the startpage.
  5. Unique training possibility within an industrial facility: A training course on "Imaging with focus on confocal microscopy" will be held by Dr. Eva Simbürger and colleagues from July 27-29, 2011 at the Demo Center of the Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH in Munich, Germany.
  6. The TATAA Biocenter offers Edu-GLIA young researchers/members 50% discount on their courses, e.g. on the main European qPCR symposium held from June 13-17, 2011 in Prague (www.qpcrsymposium.eu). The procedure to obtain the discount is described here.
  7. The 1st Edu-GLIA Summer School on reactive astrocytes in CNS diseases with lectures of outstanding researchers in this field was successfully held on the beautiful peninsula of Särö in Sweden from June 7-9, 2011, followed by the 2nd Edu-GLIA Annual Meeting (June 10-11, 2011). Both meetings were hosted by Prof. Milos Pekny.

    The 1st Edu-GLIA Annual Meeting was successfully held in Nuremberg, Germany in December 2010. Our special thanks goes to Edu-GLIA's Young Researchers who gave great presentations and to the Senior Researchers for their enthusiastic discussion contributions.

  8. During the 1st Annual Meeting four members of the Edu-GLIA Project Steering Committee (PSC) were elected. The PSC is now composed of the following persons:

    • Andreas Reichenbach (Research Coordinator, University of Leipzig)
    • Sigrid Diether (Management of Edu-GLIA, University of Tuebingen)
    • Milos Pekny (PI University of Gothenburg)
    • Frank Kirchhoff (PI University of the Saarland)

    • David Svec (ESR TATAA Biocenter, Gothenburg)

  9. An International Astrocyte School, organised by Giorgio Carmignoto, will be held from March 27 until April 03, 2011 in Bertinoro, Italy in a medieval castle with modern congress facilities. This school will focus on gliotransmission and is especially targeted at young researchers beginning their career in this field. For more information please visit http://ias2011.azuleon.org
  10. The company Carl Zeiss MicroImaging GmbH is offering an internship position for one young researcher of the ITN Edu-GLIA during which he/she will be working within the product management team and will have the unique opportunity to gain insight into an industry with close connections to science (see pdf).
  11. The 1st Edu-GLIA Complementary Training Course will be held in Tuebingen, Germany from October 18, 2010 to October 21, 2010 (arrival: October 17, 2010). The preliminary agenda can be found in the internal area (see pdf).
  12. IPR Workshop for Marie Curie Fellows - organised by the European Patent Academy - in Munich, Germany from September 08 until September 10, 2010 (see pdf).
  13. EUROGLIA 2011: The 10th European Meeting on Glial Cells in Health and Disease will take place in Prague, Czech Republic, on September 13-17, 2011. Prof. Eva Sykova, Principal Investigator of Edu-GLIA partner 8, is the President of the Organising Committee of this meeting. For more information, please visit www.europeglia2011prague.cz
  14. The 1st Edu-GLIA Annual Meeting will be held in Nuremberg, Germany on December 9th and 10th, 2010. We will stay in a nice conference hotel close to Nuremberg's historic centre and we plan to visit the "Christkindlesmarkt" (famous German Christmas market; http://www.christkindlesmarkt.de).   15. The Edu-GLIA Kick-off Meeting in Leipzig, Germany - hosted by the scientific coordinator Prof. Andreas Reichenbach - was a great success with numerous interesting talks and vivid and fruitful discussions.You will find some impressions of the meeting as well as of the fabulous dinner in the aquarium of Leipzig’s zoo in our Kick-off Meeting gallery.

  16. FEPS 2009
    The physiology meeting organized by The Slovenian Physiological Society, The Austrian Physiological Society, and The Federation of European Physiological Societies. The meeting will be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 12 till 15th of November 2009.

  17. The FENS satellite symposium "Tripartite Synapses: From Hypothesis to Reality?" will be held in Amsterdam the 2nd of July, 2010. Deadline for registration is May 01, 2010. This symposium aims at presenting the state-of-the field, gathering the scientists that have been shaping it in the last years (see flyer).
